The Importance of Visibility
Broadcast on November 19, 2015
With Chenier Carpio Opúa
As a representative of a small Indigenous group in Panama — the Wounaan — Chenier brings a powerful perspective of his people’s fight for recognition, as well as their struggles for preserving their land, for human rights, for the right to determine their own identity and the struggle to be informed about policies and decisions of the government and corporations that affect them. He shares about the cosmovision of his people, their connection with nature and the land, about medicinal plants, the identification with animals, cultural identity, the importance of art, and so much more.
Chenier Carpio Opúa
Chenier Carpio Opúa was interviewed live at the Indigenous Summit of the Americas (Cumbre de Abya Yala) in Panama City, Panama in April 2015.
